Introducing ‘Bash’

For my birthday last month I was gifted this beautiful typewriter from my best friend.

I have fallen in love with the stroke of every key which has further ignited my passion to write.  I’ve named him, Bash.  A few of my latest pieces are to follow, however I post my writing daily on Instagram at instagram.com/curly_miri

Starting back this week: ‘Thursday Treats’ and I’ll introduce a new category called ‘Stranger Saturday’, curious?  You’ll find out more on Saturday.

Thank you!

curlymirimocha In 2012, I started writing online via WordPress after my Mister snapped this photo of me on our coffee date. Curly Miri became an outlet for me to write and overcome my battle with depression.  A lot of my writing is derived from experiences in my first romantic relationship with a man from the age of 16. I left New Zealand to live with him in Washington, fast forward I’m now happy to be back in NZ.

I have now extended my writing to Instagram.   I love meeting new people, and I cherish the relationships with amazing souls I have met in the writing world. As an example, I wrote a blog post about moving into a new home and a reader sent me a painting for our home all the way from New Orleans!  You can find the beautiful work of Nancy Wolfe Kimberly (Gator Girl Art) here.

At times, I fear that allowing you to roam in the realm of my thoughts is a vulnerable gesture on my part. However, it is the genuine connections that you establish with my words I am most grateful for. Thank you for supporting my writing journey. Much love to you all.

I have been thinking a lot about my desire to have children of my own.  I came across this quote that made me smile:

Thursday Treats

Winter still makes way for blooming beauty.

1.  The vibrant flowers and a gorgeous mosaic chair at Eden Garden.  A beautiful place to embrace the serenity of nature.

2.  My cousin, an art student asked me to assist with her Frame Project.  She asked me to create a frame that represented my personality and to include a photo of her and me.  I used a Metallica CD case, dried flowers and printed a black and white photo of us from a birthday party.

3.  Delightful treats that have helped to keep the cold weather at bay.

Delicious Caramel Oat Slice from Kowhai Cafe.

Mocha. Love the image on my to go coffee cup.

Pan Fried Chicken with Lemon Grass & Rice Noodles Soup at Hansan Vietnamese Restaurant.
Love their Green Tea. They have a great selection of chicken, lamb, pork and vegetarian soup dishes.

Every week I am grateful for the treats that I encounter however I must give fair reviews.  We checked out Broncos Steakhouse and we won’t be dining there again. Mister’s Lamb Shank tasted as if it had been cooked straight from the freezer, the vegetables were soggy and the gravy drowned the flavour of the mashed potatoes.  My potato wedges were bland and far from the cripsy warmness that I desired to keep the cold weather at bay.

Okay, let’s envision a Lamb Shank infused with garlic and rosemary and has simmered until the meat is tender and falling off the bone and every bite is melt in your mouth goodness.  Yeah, not what Mister had.    However, the friendly staff and garlic bread were treats of our experience at Broncos.

For a delicious Lamb Shank or Steak that will fill you with gratifying goodness and combat the cold weather I recommend Lonestar or Jervois Steakhouse.  We walked out the door and said in unison, “Should have gone to Lonestar.”

My sisters stopped by with my favourite afghan cookies from Columbus.

Mochas and chocolate fish with Mister.

4.  I am floral obsessed.  My favourite purchase this week-vintage floral skirt.

5.

Mister.  Every day with him is a treat.  I am so grateful for the way he makes me laugh, for his kindness and his unconditional love.  Mister is the very essence of my happiness, he gives me a beautiful life and love; the kind of love that I wish every person could have.

Thursday Treats

Every Thursday, I will share 5 of my favourite Treats (pleasures as such) of the week.

I love breakfast!  Mister and I are regulars at Lucky Cafe, superb menu and delectable delicacies.  We chatted about the odd fog that swept through Auckland last night.  Living in Auckland, you become accustomed to the erratic weather; seriously we get four seasons in one day.  It’s currently cloudy out but an hour ago the sun was on full blast, and as I finish writing this sentence, raindrops are falling…

1.

My favourite on the breakfast menu is Salmon Eggs Benedict, however today was a bit chilly so thought I’d try the Brioche French Toast accompanied with maple syrup, bacon and sautéed banana.  Devine! (Mister had Chicken Risotto)

2.

High Tea.  I am obsessed.  I have accumulated a floral selection of fine bone china.  I have found individual pieces online, at op shops (thrift stores), and at Stevens (dangerous spending territory).  Of course, I had to put the china to good use with my favourite ladies.  We enjoyed eating an assortment of delicious homemade goodies.

3.

Clothing.  I came across these eggplant coloured Chuck Taylor’s online and thought to myself, why not?  Received in the post this week-super comfy.

Sparkly Sweater.  Walked past Temt and this sweater was in the store window, how could I resist?  The peach tone with sparkles just makes me all fuzzy wuzzy inside.

4.

Lovely Thai dinner for my sister’s birthday over the weekend. Curly Miri-second from the left.

5.

A Sensei flew in this morning from Japan and personally delivered Mister’s Obi-he is now an official Sensei. Over eight years of hard work has paid off, such a treat for him and a pleasure for me to see to my love happy.
