I Know Now

At 6yrs, I wondered why you gazed at grandma with a beaming smile upon your face as she drew back her tropical curtains to reveal the warmth of the sun. I know now that was love.

At 8yrs, I was inspired by your explanation of the Hiroshima A-Bomb. I know now that was knowledge.

At 11yrs, while doing my chores you told me I couldn’t vacuum properly so I had to go to my room and read instead. I know now that was attainment of education.

At 18yrs, I rubbed your aging hands after you had worked all day in the plantation. I know now that was sacrifice and the essence of hard work.

Grandpa, thank you for your love. I will miss you so much. May you rest in love.
