I’ve seen a lot of girls with straight hair rock the Sock Bun and always wondered if it would work with my curly hair.
A tutorial for the curious by MrKate
I didn’t realize how easy it was to complete the hairdo using only two hair ties, a sock and a few bobby pins. After about a minute my Sock Bun was complete and left me feeling quite elegant. An updo that I would wear out to dinner.
So yes, works great with curly hair!

love the video!!!
This is my favorite style right now and perfect for scarf wearing too since your hair does not get all tangled in it!
Completely agree! I love scarves and my hair is always getting caught up in them. Sock Bun to the rescue 🙂
Love these buns! I go for a messy one myself. 🙂
Very cute; I have a mini version of this hair do today since my hair isn’t long enough yet.
Must look great on you! 🙂 I just cut my hair and didn’t realize it would be difficult getting it back into a curly bun, lol.
Now we know what to do with those mysterious single socks that keep replacing the pairs in our sock drawer!
Indeed! I’ve also found a use for all the pantyhose that have runs and tears. 🙂
What?! It’s a SOCK?! This…this has changed my view of this hairstyle. I wish I could do this with my flimsy fine hair!
That seriously blew my mind. I always wondered how people’s hair seemed to magnify when they had it in a bun! Mystery solved! I may have to try this with my dreads…though I do not have high hopes 🙂
I started doing this when I joined the military. I’d seen quite a few women with this flawless up-do and was amazed to learn it was a sock. If you ever want to be Princess Leia for halloween – just use two. 🙂 Amazing blog – I love your style and stories!
